About
We are a University of Birmingham based group supported by Lloyds Bank, challenged with the question of how to reduce plastic waste in the city of Birmingham, as part of The Birmingham Project. The PMR is our strategy to encourage businesses into reducing their plastic waste through positive promotion of their efforts.

Team

Morgan Roberts
Biochemistry BSc
Morgan took a year out of before coming to University. Always an advocate for sustainable living, she believes the best way to solve an issue as prevalent as our environmental crisis is through the root of the problem; Governments, Suppliers and Businesses before consumers. Having joined the Birmingham Project in order to meet and learn from new people, as well as make a difference, Morgan believes positive encouragement of businesses and their plastic waste management is a great way to remind people that our plastic crisis is still solvable and that we can all be doing our part to fight it.

Sophia Nunhuck
Modern languages with business management BA

Sophia is a first-year student who undertook the Birmingham Project in order to gain new skills and experience and to meet new people. She is enthusiastic about promoting sustainability and committed to recycling. She believes raising awareness of the companies’ impacts is significant in reducing plastic waste.

Alexander James
Economics and Political Science BSc
Alex joined the project to really make a difference. He is dedicated to reducing plastic waste and investing in more sustainable ways to exist. He believes that to make change there needs to be a mass shake up in attitudes from bottom to top.

Molly Dugmore
Geology and Physical Geography BSc
Molly has a passion for the environment which has led her to study an Earth Science degree. Through studying this degree, she has developed an insight into how pollutants are dramatically changing the world around us. Molly originally undertook The Birmingham Project 2019 to develop her skill set, however due to the nature of the task, it has provided her with a real opportunity to make a physical impact on the theory she otherwise studies in the classroom.

Laura Edgar
Economics with German BSc
Laura is a first-year student who likes to make the most out of every opportunity. She is passionate about reducing waste and promoting recycling, but also believes not taking oneself too seriously and having a laugh are also a crucial part of the job.

Sophie Wareing-Banks
LLB Law
Before Sophie became a student at the University, she took a gap year and had a number of jobs. One of her main issues with her first company was the fact that they advertised themselves as passionate about the environment, but in practice had no regard for recycling and used plastic unnecessarily without thinking about the effect on the environment. For this reason, she believes it is important for people to be aware of how their favourite brands manage plastic in practice and make informed choices about which brands they choose to purchase from.
