According to WWF:

·     8 million tonnes of plastic end up in our oceans each year

·     90% of seabirds have plastic in their stomachs

·     1 in 2 marine turtles have eaten plastic

Specifically, coffee shops generate huge amounts of plastic waste where:

·     An estimated 7 million coffee cups are thrown away in the UK each day (WWF)

·     Less than 1% of coffee cups are recycled (Independent, 2018)

These facts show the severity of the issue of plastic waste and demonstrate that we need to make significant changes.
