Packaging

Plastic packaging is a huge contributor to waste. Environmentally friendly alternatives are becoming more readily available. Composto]ible alternatives such as vegware can replace your plastic forks and takeaway packages.

Try to invest in different methods of packaging, for example packing that is either biocomposible or readily recyclable. Have you heard of beeswax wraps? It is a 100% natural and environmentally friendly alternative to cling film. It made using cotton, pine resin, jojoba oil and local beeswax. It also comes in cute patterns!

Awareness is also important. Make sure to label all your packaging with the appropriate recycling instructions so that your customers can effectively dispose of it.

Conduct a waste audit. List the plastic packaging you currently use. Then reduce your plastic by being economical with box sizes, protecting food with paper or shredded cardboard and identifying the resources you can reuse.

Spread the word! You could calculate the annual plastic savings made, and publish them for positive publicity. Additionally, you share you eco message with other companies, and encourage them to join in too!

Provide non- plastic alternatives. Examples include paper straws, reusable coffee cups or returnable food packaging options. If you wanted to go the extra mile, you could do this as a standard!
