Schemes that your cafe can implement can make a dramatic difference to your plastic waste footprint.
Use non-plastics alternatives as a standard. For example, only provide paper straws in order to cut out single-use plastic. Some straws can take 200 years to degrade. Additionally, start to bulk buy your condiments in glass bottles instead of using single-serving plastic sachets.
Start filling up customers reusable bottles with water for free at your establishment. Advertising that you do this would also emphasise your eco message and act as positive publicity.
Encourage “Bring Your Own” for items such as takeaway coffee cups and shopping bags. As an incentive, you could try offering a small discount in return. Producing your own reusable branded coffee cups would also act as promotion for your business.
